Jeanne E. Mettler, Esq. is a criminal defense attorney with over three decades of experience. She maintains a law office in Copake, New York.Ms. Mettler specializes in criminal defense including felonies, misdemeanors, traffic and DWI charges. She also handles criminal appeals.
Originally from Copake Falls, Ms. Mettler left the area in 1978 to work for the Criminal Division of the Legal Aid Society of Westchester County. For over 30 years, she has concentrated on representing individuals charged with crimes.Her extensive trial experience includes many homicide cases. She was co-counsel for one of the first potential death penalty cases in Westchester in 1998.
In 1996 Ms. Mettler was the President of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.She was the first woman to hold that post.
CIVIC INVOLVEMENT
Locally she served as Chair of the Comprehensive Planning Committee for the Town of Copake from 2008 to 2011, when the Plan was adopted by the Town. In January 2012 she was appointed as Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Copake. In April 2012 she was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Town Board, and she currently serves in that capacity.
TEACHING EXPERIENCE
In 2002 Ms. Mettler was accepted as a New York City Teaching Fellow. She earned her Masters in Teaching from Fordham University, Graduate School of Education in 2004. She taught from 2002 to 2005 at Harry S Truman High School in the Bronx, where she taught Social Studies and Law and coached the Truman Law Team. She earned permanent certification in Social Studies and was awarded the 2005 Teacher of the Year Award.
EDUCATION
Ms. Mettler is a 1977 graduate of the Rutgers School of Law- Camden. She holds a BA from Marymount College in Tarrytown.She graduated from Roeliff Jansen Central School in 1970.
